Archie Heart Breaker!

ARCHIE #609

“More Than Words”: Last issue, readers witnessed the double-bill of the century, as The Archies and Josie & the Pussycats co-headlined a major concert tour!  When the lights dimmed, it turned out that the lyrics to the love songs weren’t just being recited on stage… but also whispered into Valerie’s ears by Archie!  The two lovebirds soon became songbirds, penning their own original love song.  But when Betty and Veronica find out, they’re in no mood for love songs!  Can Archie and Valerie have a relationship amidst the suspicions and jealousies of their band mates, or will the curtain fall on their rockin’ romance?

Word

Apparently any book published through lulu.com CAN and WILL be withdrawn if some anonymous creep makes a complaint -NOT BACKED UP BY ANYTHING OTHER THAN HIS EMAIL!

lulu.com can also ignore all emails from you on what is a serious matter.  24 hours later still no responses.

Apparently,’friends’ who you’ve supported and helped out and who know the ins-and-outs of the situation CAN become too busy to back you up or…care. I should have a good Expo this year.

It was common knowledge that I was working on -with permission of the creators families- a compilation of a 1960s series.  Suddenly,a certain person jumps in to announce he is publishing this -with permission of the company who DO NOT own the rights [the family do].  If that person announces a new book featuring strips published in Black Tower Silver Age over the next few months you’ll know he is a spineless,dishonest,back-stabbing piece of scum.

There is a common trait in both Hooper and Scharf families. If you insult/offend/act without cause against them they will wait.  A year, three years…even 25 years[!] and then they will make their move [legally of course].

Let the Spineless ones sit back and have a laugh.  They just over-stepped the line and have made a very big enemy.

I’m sat back and waiting.

More On Spineless Cowards

Having opened the mail today I find that there has been an anonymous complaint to tax people stating I am not declaring earnings/foreign earnings so that is being looked into.

There is another complaint [anonymous,of course] which I’m not going into here but is a suggestion of fraud on my part.

I’ve rung both offices this afternoon and been told that I need to prove that I am not guilty of any wrong-doing –yes,I need to PROVE that I am not guilty of accusations I am not allowed to know specifics of!!!!!!

I have also had a letter from a law firm forbidding me from writing any “further exposes[sic] concerning our clients and the industry they are involved in”.  This pertains to my book on the UK comic industry I announced earlier in the week.  I’ll be publishing it anyway and look forward to seeing the “clients” in court.  This says a lot about what the industry has been up to.

It seems that all the protection is for anonymous, cowardly little malicious scum NOT for innocent people.

I have, though, found out who may be behind this.  I am REALLY looking forward to this weekend’s Comic Expo.  If YOU,Spineless, are reading this,I will be saying “Hello”.

In the meantime book mark the Black TowerBlog [see blog roll] as I hear an official complaint is going to Word Press about CBO.  The intention? To close me down.

So no posts over the weekend get to the Black Tower Blog!

Long live freedom of speech and democracy!

Betty & Veronica Play Ball

BETTY & VERONICA DOUBLE DIGEST #181

“No Baseball for Betty Part 2”: Continued from last issue.  If you think Archie has a hard time choosing between Betty and Veronica, wait until he has to choose between his feelings for Betty and his desire to play shortstop on the baseball team – the same position Betty is trying out for!  Yes, last issue Betty decided to play hard ball instead of softball, and in the process she threw a curve ball to Archie and the other boys on the team!  In fact, it’s led to an all-out debate between the boys and girls, and now the boys are threatening to petition that Betty be banned from baseball!  Who will prevail?  There are still several innings left to play in this multi-part tale!

Withdrawn Book

Okay, this is what lulu.com sent me and there is another side of this that is so ridiculous I am seriously thinking of withdrawing all the comic albums from lulu.com.  I’ll up-date on this matter later as lulu are slow to respond to MY email.

Spineless

Is about all I can write at the moment.  I’ve just been told one of my lulu books that I needed for the weekend expo has been withdrawn.

I’ll give more details later, however, let’s just say that lulu.com has been asked to provide the full text of the complaint and to identify the complainee for my solicitor which they will have to do or I go through the legal route.

Like Lists?

Not sure whether this might interest collectors or not but…

GraphicNovelReporter.com Releases
Its First Core Graphic Novels List

A guide to help traditional booksellers entering the graphic-novel marketplace to build a basic collection, one step at a time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE–GraphicNovelReporter.com, a leading website for graphic-novel and manga news and reviews, has released its Core Graphic Novels list for adults — the first of four lists the website has planned to guide booksellers who would like to stock these titles, but are in need of some reliable information on what to stock to reach this continually growing audience.

“Since we started conceptualizing this site — and even more frequently since it launched in December 2008 — traditional booksellers have asked for guidance on what to buy for their stores,” said Carol Fitzgerald, President of TheBookReportNetwork.com, which publishes GraphicNovelReporter. “We see a keen interest from retailers in carrying more graphic novels in stores, but they are overwhelmed by the number of titles out there. Given the depth and breadth of our content, we saw an opportunity to provide these honed lists.”

These edited choices are divided into separate categories to help accommodate particular bookstores’ needs, based on both content and size: beginning with 10 books for those with very small spaces to allot to graphic works, followed by 25 and 100 more selections for those with more room. A nonfiction list is also included.

In the weeks ahead, GraphicNovelReporter.com will debut lists for the Teen and the Kids categories, two of the biggest categories in comics, as well as manga lists again broken out by demographic.

“This is by no means an exhaustive list, nor is it a best-of list. It’s a solid, core list for booksellers who want to branch out into comics selling and build a base,” added John Hogan, Editorial Director of GraphicNovelReporter. “Once they jump in, whether it’s with 10, 25, or 100 or more titles, they’ll quickly learn how strong this category can be for them and also will learn what is interesting to their customers.”

Golden,Jusko Euro Tour

Michael Golden and Joe Jusko Headline “LEI 2010 Euro Spring Tour”!

Paris, The Netherlands, Brussels — The Eva Ink Artist Tour for May 2010 is underway! And this year sees the bi-annual event reprising the successes of two years ago by bringing back two illustration heavy hitters for the adventure– creator Michael Golden and illustrator Joe Jusko!

“I admire the work of both of these talents immensely,” says Renee Witterstaetter of Eva Ink Artist Group, “And I’m very happy to welcome them both back on the tour. It’s seldom that we invite the same creators back so soon, but the demand for Joe and Michael was high, both from the fans of their work in Europe, and from the store owners themselves!”

And it’s certainly no wonder!

Artist/writer/creator Michael Golden, co-creator of the X-men’s Rogue character, is known for his detailed pencil work on “The ‘Nam,” “Micronauts,”  “G.I. Joe Yearbook,” and  “Dr. Strange, ” among much more!

Milestones in Golden’s career include the co-creation of “Bucky O’Hare,” which led to an animated series and toy line designed by Michael, “The Mirconauts,” as well as “Spartan X” with editor Renee Witterstaetter. Currently, Golden’s work can be seen with new covers on “Spiderman 1602,” “Iron Man”, “Heroes for Hire”, “X-Men,” “Demon’s Regret, ” “Mice Templar,” and many more. In addition, Vanguard Production’s extensive art book,  “Excess: The Art of Michael Golden,” is on a second printing, while  Creator Chronicles has also recently released a two part candid DVD on Michael and his career.

Michael has served as an Editor at DC Comics as well as Senior Art Director at Marvel Comics, and has worked on scores of movie production projects, including some currently in development. His art has been the focus of gallery shows in places as diverse as Gijon and Barcelona, Spain, New York, Antwerp and Brussels, while his class on storytelling has been conducted from Spain to Brussels to Canada to The United States and most recently in China. He was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Lille, France.

Following the successful “Heroes and Villains” sketchbook” released last year, Michael’s new hardcover art book “Michael Golden: MORE Heroes and Villains,” has just hit the stands, and his work on the Eva Ink project “Kerry and the Scary Things,” is due out in October.

Joe Jusko is undoubtedly one of the best known Fantasy, Pin-Up and Comic Artists in the world today. His career has spanned almost 30 years, starting with the sale of his first cover for Heavy Metal Magazine in 1977 at the age of 17. Since , Joe has worked for almost every major comic book publisher, producing hundreds of images for both covers and interiors.

In addition to his work at Marvel over the years, Joe has produced art for many other companies and characters, including DC Comics, Crusade Comics, Innovation Comics, Harris Comics, Wildstorm Comics, Top Cow Productions and Byron Preiss Visuals, to name just a few. His recent work includes miscellaneous cover paintings for ‘The Oz/Wonderland Chronicles’, ‘Vampirella’ , and Sheena, among others. The next project due out on to highlight Joe’s amazing work is “Joe Jusko: Savage Beauty,” a hardcover art book from Eva Ink Publishing.

Jusko’s work has earned him myriad awards and honors, including two “Favorite Painter” Wizard Fan Awards, multiple trading card awards, a Golden Lion Award from the Burroughs Bibliophiles (previous recipients include Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo) and a Chesley Award nomination for best cover .

The  LEI 2010 Euro Spring Tour includes stops at:

Paris– Diablo Blanc Comics– May 21st and May 22nd

The Netherlands, Breda– Der Stripspecialist– May 27th

Brussels– Utopia Comics– May 28th and May 29th

Brussels– Ganshoren Comics Festival– May 30th

“We look forward to seeing all of our friends at all these stops,” continued Renee, “And, hey, if you are a store in Europe and would like to be on future tour itineraries, drop me an e-mail. We love to work with new people as well, and meet fans we haven’t met yet!

“Stories from the last two years of tours are legend, ” laughs Renee. “It will be exciting to see what this year holds.”

Golden and Jusko will be signing and sketching at all stops, as well as offering 4 prints each exclusive to the tour, while supplies last. For more information on the stores, locations, and any commission rates, contact Renee at: evaink@aol.com
