For the first time in,quite literally, years,Paul Brown has produced a “sequential art” zine [or comic strip as we call it.
Oh the angst! I was not depressed until I read this. Damned if I can find the Wilkinson Sword razor blades, though. Play Billie Holiday singing “Gloomy Sunday” while reading [NO–DON’T!!!].
Erm,anyhow, the strip follows artist “Benedict” who is totally frustrated and depressed by all the absolute common crud being praised as “new art” and he’s hit a dry-spell or,as we call it,”artist’s block”. It doesn’t help that his drinking gets in the way. But then -ta-daaah!- along comes Rachel Amber. One of the new artists and a relationship develops. Problem is that Rachel is a new high flying success while Benedict still cannot paint a toffee.
But he finds happiness and learns to just paint when he can -NOT!
Ultimately Benedict destroys his new relationship. You really need to buy the book to see how it goes -but don’t hold out for that happy ending.
If you like slice-of-life and some slick black and white work then this is for you –but remember copies sell very quickly and there are limited numbers!
I’d like to see the unpublished “Outlaws 4029″ by Brown and his buddy Darron Northall but this isn’t going to happen [yet].
There are plenty of goodies that you can see/order over at Mr. Brown’s website:

Give it a visit and appreciate the Marlon Brando of Bristol Art Culture!

ARCHIE & FRIENDS #137
PART ONE OF A TWO-PART STORY THAT REINTRODUCES SOME OF THE MOST MEMORABLE CHARACTERS ARCHIE EVER PUBLISHED!
“Cosmic Cosmosis Part One”: Working at the Pep Comics shop to get a discount on comics and a place to store his collection, Chuck is visited by his friends as he bags and boards. Suddenly, glowing meteors from the MLJ Nebula rain down in Riverdale, including one that crashes into the shop and morphs into a door to other dimensions! This cosmic portal leads to a world that Chuck, Archie and his friends have only ever seen in comics… a world of talking ducks and bears, super-powered heroes and oddball beings from other planets. It doesn’t take them long to realize they are in the presence of a veritable “who’s who” of some of the greatest comic book characters ever published by Archie and its earlier incarnation, MLJ Comics: Captain Sprocket, Cosmo the Merry Martian, Squoimy the Woim, Gloomy Gus, Judge Owl, Ginger, Suzie and more! The trouble is, now that the “fantasy world” has invaded the “real world,” the “fictional” characters seek as much a taste of reality as possible: Wilbur and Seymour want to meet “real” girls to date, Pat the Brat realizes there’s a whole new potential audience to pull pranks on, Cubby the Bear wants to see how earth bears live, and more. On top of it all, Super Duck and Reggie get into a no-holds-barred shouting match! Realizing the veritable “Pandora’s Box” situation they’re in, Archie decides it would best for the comic book characters to go back through the portal to return to their own worlds… but the characters have other plans. Namely, they plan to stay indefinitely!

Fellow comic fans–
The book “Secret Identity The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe
Shuster” by Craig Yoe comes to life this Saturday at the famed Dr.
Sketchy’s Live Drawing event in NYC! Top fetish model Darenzia and her
partner Nicholas will recreate scenes inspired by Joe Shuster’s erotic
art that inspired murders by neo-Nazi juvenile delinquents and lost a
Supreme Court freedom of the press case in the 1950s. Shuster’s art
looks uncannily like his characters Superman and Lois Lane.
Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster” is being
represented by the Gotham Group for a major motion picture.
Yoe will give a short slide show and autograph books before the scintillating drawing session begins.
Saturday November 7th, 4-7 pm,
The Slipper Room, 167 Orchard NYC.
18 and over only.
Thanks much for publicizing this exciting event! Whip it good!

This has just been posted to a group and I think it worth adding after yesterday’s snippet.
“Hi Jean-Paul and everyone else,
I’ve held off posting on this because it appears to be a political move
by the city to try and get financing from other sources. I don’t think
anyone seriously wants the Festival to leave Angoulême, especially since
they’ve just built a new comics museum. I think it’s unlikely the
upcoming Festival will be canceled on such short notice, but you never
know. Current news indicates the mayor’s office is backpedaling on
their statements. The mayor is scheduled to make a statement today
(Tuesday) which might or might not clear things up.
The Comics Reporter and Journalista sites have been covering the story
(http://www.comicsre porter.com/ and http://tcj.com/ journalista/), mostly
getting info from the local paper at http://www.charente libre.com.
Comics Reporter also has the intrepid Bart Beaty on the case.”

…Hooper IS Here!
Yup,just been finishing off the latest book between trying to get Krakos:Sands Of Terror printed off so I have been a little less concerned about CBO like most people [yes,I know of the few regulars but that’s about ten of the 450-600 hits a day].
I think things have been running smoothly, though?
News,my dears. That’s what we need. Oh,and you did read the Nicole Damon interview…didn’t you??
