On the run from both agents of the Vatican and Ottoman authorities, the Scorpion is forced into uneasy alliances to continue his quest. Riding towards the Holy Land, the motley band begins to unravel the secrets of the Templars. But as loyalties shift, a confrontation looms, and in the shadow of an inverted cross, a forgotten truth will resurface that could destroy Trebaldi’s power…

Well,I for one will not be revealing any plot spoilers! This series has,so far, been a pure joy to read with some excellent writing by Stephen Desberg and I’m shocked that with all the comic strips being grabbed by movie companies for “development” The Scorpion has not yet been,as they say in the Biz “optioned”!

And Enrico Marini’s art –could a film be as atmospheric and eye-catching as this?? Lush artwork from front cover to back. We really must get creators like these over to UK conventions!!

As for Rochnan, that mysterious masked Templar:he is THE villain of the year and I almost find him more interesting than The Scorpion! He makes “V” from V For Vendetta look “subtle! Oh,and this book..seriously..find out why he wears that mask!!

A winner as far as I’m concerned. Remember that Christmas is not that far away and a set of The Scorpion books ought to please any comics lover!

Well,to date I’ve seen none of Mohawk’s books in either bookstores or comic shops and enquiring leads to blank expressions. Anyone out there seen the books let me know.

Oh,and lest we forget:Time Bomb used Dick Turpin in a comic a couple years back. Be interesting to see how the two compare.

THE IRON MOON A Charlotte Corday adventure… RULE BRITANNIA! BRITANNIA RULES THE STARS! The twentieth century is just around the corner and Queen Victoria is hale and hearty as she heads into the second century of her reign. The British Empire stretches from the white cliffs of Dover to the red skies of Mars. Go-getting men and women of the imperial dominions flock to the colours, eager to make reputations and fortunes in the wilds of high space.

Take lieutenant Charlotte Corday, for instance. Born in what used to be known as France, she has risen to prominence through the ranks of the Royal Space Navy and now finds herself up to her neck in her greatest escapade yet. Watch as she travels to the mysterious Iron Moon! Marvel as she grapples with a conspiracy that may see the galaxy plunged into war! Goggle as she meets new and strange races, both mechanical and biological! Ponder how she manages to put away so many cups of tea! And prepare to have your brain scrambled as she scoops us up and carries us to the very limits of this universe… and into the next! Iron Moon writer Stephen Walsh has written multiple volumes of DC Thomson’s Commando Picture Library, as well as the graphic novel The Acid Bath Case (illustrated by Kellie Strom). He co-wrote the feature films How Harry Became A Tree, released in 2001, directed by Goran Paskaljevic and the upcoming Where The Sea Used To Be, directed by Paul Farren. He’s currently working on a documentary about John Ford with the director Sé Merry Doyle, as well as preparing further adventures of Charlotte Corday with Keith Page. Inspired by the great British comics artists of the past such as Frank Hampson, Don Lawrence and Joe Colquhoun, Keith Page has worked full-time in comics and illustration for some 17 years. Subjects have ranged from television-related material such as Thunderbirds, science fiction, and his current war stories of all periods for Commando.

Hope Street Studios -mini doc

Back in 1995/1996,I was in talks with the BBC about a short series of documentaries [approx 25 mins each] on comics. NOT Beano or Dandy but talking to people like the late Mike Western [who wasn't "late" then],John Cooper and others as well as talking to Indie/Small Press creators.

Everything was set up and then I never got a phone call I expected about a pick up time to do filming. As the ***** secretary said to me:”But he cancelled the shoot two weeks ago…oh,I see. He never told you. That’s bad”

End of project.

We’ve seen Comics Britannia that was the same old same old but now, thanks to [hold back choking] Comics Journal there is a mini doc of over 20 minutes on the Hope Street Studios featuring creators from Wasted,Khaki Shorts and so on. Well worth watching:

Archie Comics Attempt World Domination!

ARCHIE COMICS EXPANDS TO SERVE RISING WORLDWIDE FANBASE

New York, NY (August 30, 2010): Archie Comics—home to the Archie Wedding phenomenon, LIFE WITH ARCHIE magazine and lifelong fans—is expanding The Archie Comic Shop online at ArchieComics.com to include international shipping options for almost every Archie product!

Letter after letter and e-mail after e-mail has been flooding into the Archie offices asking to bring Archie Comics to destinations across the globe and now those demands are being answered. The Archie Comic Shop online at ArchieComics.com, which previously only offered graphic novels to international customers, is now expanding to offer international subscriptions as an “Overseas” option, with affordable shipping at a single flat rate.

Jon Goldwater, Archie Comics Co-CEO, said the decision was made “to get Archie Comics to where they belong: in the hands every single Archie fan. It’s about time for fans everywhere to have access to the Archie comics they love.”

After expanding to include the more widely distributed mega-hit magazine LIFE WITH ARCHIE, the expansion to international subscriptions was the next logical step in supplying Archie comic books to areas where demands were not being met.

In addition to previous availability in the US and Canada, to have any Archie Comics publication from ARCHIE & FRIENDS to JUGHEAD’S DOUBLE DIGEST or LIFE WITH ARCHIE magazine delivered straight to anywhere—from the Philippines, to Australia, to the United Arab Emirates, China, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Russia or Kenya—fans can now click on any shop link online at ArchieComics.com to order from the newly expanded Archie Comic Shop.

Stan Lee And The Super Seven

When we announced in February that Stan Lee would be plotting Stan Lee And The Super Seven for Archie Comics it was big news.  Unfortunately, rumour seems to have taken over since.  There was a panel at San Diego but as no one told CBO about it all I can tell you is that there is a new creative team [but I have no idea who] though Stan Lee is still plotting.

More news soon?
