Flash Gordon TV Show..Don’t Bother

Posted by admin On August - 21 - 2007 ADD COMMENTS

Three of us sat down to watch the “behind-the-scenes” documentary of the new TV show.  Unanimous opinion:it looked cheap, tacky and even Ming The Merciless it seems has to qualify in the Hollywood “must-be-generic” actor type.

Ming The Merciless??  This man looked as though he couldn’t cut into a double-choc Latte without a stunt double.  Watch the free episode? Don’t. Read a book,a magazine but don’t waste your valuable seconds on this planet watching Flush  Flash Gordon!

Veronica Mars Joins Heroes

Oh lordy lordy, here goes another admission that will see my effigy burnt tonight in TV fanland.  I’m not too keen on TVs Heroes series.  Over-long and rapidly losing my interest as the writers try to fit in catch-phrases that will launch a thousand T-shirts [”Save the cheer-leader;save the world”,etc.,etc..] -hey -they admit it!

Anyway, some news for you and,no,I have never seen Veronica Mars either!

“UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – August 20, 2007 – Award-winning, critically acclaimed actress Kristen Bell (”Veronica Mars”) joins NBC’s Emmy Award-nominated ensemble drama “Heroes” for a special multiple episode arc as “Elle,” a sexy, intriguing, mysterious young lady who has ties to Peter’s apparent death, H.R.G.’s past, and Claire’s future. When fans first meet Elle in October, she will commit a terrible crime, but as always with “Heroes,” it will be unclear whose side she is really on. The announcement was made by “Heroes” executive producer/creator Tim Kring, who said: “This was not easy to pull off. But since we’re an ensemble show, with many arcs playing out through the year, we found a way to jump into a small window in her schedule. I pitched her the idea we have for the character, which she loved, and we’re off and running.” “Kristen Bell is a very special actress,” said Universal Media Studios President Katherine Pope. “With so many studios chasing her in both film and TV, we’re beyond delighted that she chose to star on our show. Viewers are going to love her in this role. The depth and complexity that she brings as an actress is a perfect fit for ‘Heroes.’” Most recently, Bell starred for three seasons in the title role of the Joel Silver-produced series “Veronica Mars,” in which she played a smart, fearless apprentice private investigator dedicated to solving her wealthy seaside town’s toughest mysteries. For her role, Bell won a Saturn Award for “Best Actress on Television” and was nominated for two Teen Choice Awards: “Choice Breakout Actress” and “Choice Breakout TV Show.”

She will be seen next in the title role of Judd Apatow’s romantic comedy for Universal, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”; co-stars in The Weinstein Company’s “Fanboys”; and supplies the voice of Marybelle in 20th Century Fox’s animated feature, “Sheepish” — all of which will be released in 2008. In addition, this fall, Bell narrates the new series “Gossip Girl.”

Bell also recently starred in the sci-fi thriller, “Pulse” released by The Weinstein Company in August, 2006, and she played the kidnapped daughter of the President in the David Mamet thriller, “Spartan,” opposite Val Kilmer.

Bell starred in 2004’s camp musical “Reefer Madness” on Showtime, which was based on the hit play, in which she also starred Off-Broadway. Previously, the actress was best-known for her recurring role in the HBO series “Deadwood.” Her television credits also include a lead role in the critically acclaimed made-for-television movie, “Gracie’s Choice,” opposite Anne Heche and Diane Ladd for Lifetime, and guest-starring roles on such series as “American Dreams,” “The Shield” and “Everwood.”

On stage, Bell appeared in the Los Angeles Opera’s all-star production of the Stephen Sondheim musical, “A Little Night Music,” just prior to beginning production on “Veronica Mars.” Previously, she starred in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” with Liam Neeson and Laura Linney, the Broadway production of “Tom Sawyer,” and she played the title role in the World Premiere production of the musical “Sneaux.”

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Bell attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She currently lives in Los Angeles.

From creator/writer Tim Kring (”Crossing Jordan”) comes the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated “Heroes,” an epic drama that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. In its first season, “Heroes” was honored with a People’s Choice Award, an AFI Award, a Multicultural Prism Award and this year’s TV Land Future Classic Award and the TV Critics Association Awards’ Outstanding Program of the Year, as well as nominations at the Golden Globe Awards, NAACP Image Awards, WGA Awards and Satellite Awards. “Heroes” makes its second season debut on Monday, Sept. 24.

Joining Kring as executive producer are Dennis Hammer (”Crossing Jordan”), Allan Arkush (”Crossing Jordan”) and Greg Beeman (”Smallville”). The drama is produced by Universal Media Studios in association with Tailwind Productions”

Smallville & Supergirl

Okay, okay. I’ll come clean here -I am not a big fan of the TV series Smallville.  That said,it’s gone on for, what -7 seasons? The actors are okay but just not into it.

Now,Laura vandervoort  will be joining as “Supergirl”.  Yep,she’s attractive. She’s “buff” -which is probably why she got the job!  Even villains have to be good looking in Smallville after all and teens won’t watch a chubby teen Supergirl [probably because they’ve been brought up wrong!].

So,for those wanting to drool:a photo of Laura.

The Punisher Movie

473header_banner6758639.jpg

It was bound to happen I guess.  Marvel are kicking ass with their movies and as we twiddle our thumbs waiting for Iron Man [how about an Avengers film??]mhere’s news from Marvel about The Punisher film [third time lucky?].

According to Marvel:

“With a hail of bullets and the roar of revenge-heavy gunfire, a slew of new details have emerged for 2008’s “Punisher” sequel.

First up, there’s a new warrior donning Frank Castle’s iconic skull shirt: Ray Stevenson, star of HBO’s acclaimed “Rome” series. With a new star comes a new director, German auteur Lexi Alexander (”Green Street Hooligans”).

Lexi Alexander

The Irish-born Stevenson, most known for his role as Titus the callous warrior on HBO’s “Rome,” clocks in at a hulking 6′4″ and judging by his work on “Rome” is probably the absolute perfect choice to play the skull-clad vigilante.

Lexi Alexander is a former karate and kickboxing world champion known for writing and directing the gritty film “Green Street Hooligans.”

The film is currently in pre-production and shooting is scheduled to start this September in Montreal for a 2008 release”

THOR -The Movie!

If I’m correct,Thor has made only one live action appearance in The Return Of The Incredible Hulk, opposite the late great Bill Bixby’s David [”because it don’t sound gay”] Banner.

So,as the God of Thunder makes a fantastic return to comics, what does Marvel have to say?

Let’s see!

1413header_banner6763510.jpg

“Thor’s mystic hammer Mjolnir manipulates ferocious winds, boisterous bolts and pelting rain. And Marvel Studios has decided to grant mighty Mjolnir to Matthew Vaughn, red-hot director of “Stardust” and “Layer Cake.”

After nearly linking up for X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, Marvel and Vaughn have struck a powerful accord to bring Thor and his expansive mythos to the big screen. As a director, Vaughn’s films have been incredibly well-received. Both the gritty, underworld-flavored favorite “Layer Cake” and his latest effort “Stardust” have been praised by critics and fans alike. After seeing his latest effort, Premiere Magazine described the director by saying, “he can shift so smoothly between goofy and gruesome that you don’t feel a thing that he doesn’t want you to.” His talent for meshing action, grit, fantasy and comedy is sure to play well with the God of Thunder.

Don’t think that his résumé only includes these two movies, though. With producer credits for Guy Ritchie’s opuses “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch,” “Thor” is guaranteed to be a unique look at Lord Odin’s favorite son. Onboard the Viking ship is writer Mark Protosevich, late of “Poseidon” and “The Cell.” Story details are still under lock and key at the moment, but expect a fresh—yet faithful—approach to Thor’s story.”

I’ve already referred to the Iron Man movie which looks great -lots of images currently everywhere!- so what next?  Me,I’d love to see The Avengers…have I said that before?
