A Teaser!

I’ll be putting up a “Last Week” up-date on the Comic Expo about Tuesday.
I’ve been in touch with Dave Ryan of War Of The Independents fame and arranged an interview with him once his home move is complete.
I’ll also be doing a review of Hybrid Bastards #2 which Katie kindly sent me -along with a […]

CBO would like to introduce two new staffers who will deal with interviews and reviews.
First up is Billy ‘13″ C’ Goldbrick Jnr.  CBO asked Billy how he saw his CBO duties:
“Word,dawg. Some ****** ******* bro tries t’ ********* tippy-toe up mah crib t’ ******** deisrespect m’ho goddamn if’n the **** ain’t gonna get slapped upside […]

Secret Invasion? I Need To Get A Life!

Following a question on my Yahoo American Mysterymen group re. the recent events in the Marvel Universe,I found myself answering at length. To quote that great comic store owner,I realised “My life has been wasted!” But the response might solicit some response from fellow Comic Geeksters out there.
Take a deep breath here.

Just before/during the Marvel […]

Cheerful..hmm!

Just realised that in my item on comics people being cheerful I said Panini were not producing new material.
Well,”yes” and “no”.
My old pal Jon Haward was drawing Spider-man for them and there is the Dr Who strip.
What I should have said is that there are no new titles featuring British characters set in the UK […]

Reasons To Be Cheerful?

Okay,CBO has just had its biggest hit at 120,812.  Not bad,eh?
So things should be looking cheery?  For some, yes.
Manga/Manhua/Manhwa has been a constant big-hitter and this doesn’t just mean Dr Master or Udon [though not heard from the latter in a looong time!] but UK Manga creators such as Sonia Leong or Emma Viecelli  and Sweatdrop […]

Charlton Modern Imprint?

The wonderful Ramon Shenk, whose name should be familiar to anyone who is a comics buff [or officianado if you prefer],comes up with all sorts of interesting items. Few stump me but I’ll admit that Modern Comics is a new one on me!

As far as I know,as a collector of Charlton Comics since the 1960s,the Modern […]

Random Thoughts?

It’s amazing at how easily you can be ripped off in the comics business.

I was in touch with an Indian [that’s from the Indian sub-continent] publisher who was a big fan of certain old British comic characters. I mentioned a team-up strip of two characters that he had not seen before and I offered […]

Review Material

Okay,I get asked why there;s so much news or reviews from such-and-such a publisher?
Well,it’s simple. They sendnews releases and review copies [NOT pdfs -we DO NOT accept them only hard copies]of comics.
That simple.
We don’t mind if you are a Small Presser or Independent publisher -we’ll review and publish your news.
With 16000 hits and RSS […]

Small Publishers Still Losing Out?

It seems that, after Travelling Man in Bristol closed up rather quickly, many Small Pressers lost out.  Their books were not returned and money for books sold not paid out.
However, this is nothing new. Back in the 1980s Small Pressers and Independent publishers, myself included, were being ripped off by shops using one excuse or another and knowing that pursuing […]
