Jaydee was found as a baby in the Pennsylvania mountains by hunters. He was raised in an orphanage, and eventually found work as a teenager at the Baltimore Times. He befriended another foundling, Mary Stone, and used his metamorphic powers to fight crime. Eventually, he met the alien Mikeno who told him he was the son of King Kraan of Tzara, assassinated by Utor the Usurper. With his friends’ help, Jaydee defeated Utor and reclaimed his throne. Unfortunately, this was an elaborate simulation designed by the villain known as the Tarantula to gain control of Jaydee’s mind for her master, the Necromancer.
Jaydee was ultimately rescued by the mysterious team known as Strangers and has joined forces with them. While fighting with the Strangers, Jaydee learned from Starlock that he may be the last surviving Salamandrite, an artificial lifeform created to be the ultimate hunter/killer by the mysterious Life-Makers of Zade.
Star Knight Timothy is an young Earthman who finds himself transported through a spacetime vortex to the far-off planet Oro, ruled by King Gunnar. There, he becomes a pawn in a looming battle between Gunnar and his rival, Morder. Morder has been promised the hand of Princess Lyre, who has fallen in love with Timothy.
On the mystic moon of Ator, the Wizard Gabol of Xilos transforms Timothy into a Star Knight and entrusts him with the mission of protecting Oro. Timothy then alternates his time between Earth and Oro.
Dick Spade began his journalistic career as an investigative reporter at the San Francisco Morning News. He is now working for Channel 10 in Chicago. In the course of his duties, he has sometimes helped and sometimes hindered Phenix.
Yes, folks –three classics from the legendary Italian artist Danilo Grossi. There is a nice piece that connects the old series of Jaydee to the Strangers Universe. The art is pure 1970s classic and has a great feel to it. And Star Knight is a series I’ve heard of but never seen –very funky! Dick Spade? Well, could you be more inclined to investigate –Dick Spade screams out private detective but I guess it’ll work for an investigative journalist!
So how does all of this fit into the Strangers Universe? If you can wait a few days, no seriously, you DO have to wait, I’ll tell you. I really do despair that these books are not in UK shops –are they in US comic shops? They really should be.
Perhaps Hexagon Comics need a bigger presence at UK or US comic conventions because then comic buyers can see what they are missing and with the UK really embracing European comics now maybe a liuttle nudging won’t hurt!
