Opening Pandora’s Internet Box

Thanks to Peter [who has posted here before under his internet name] who works as a Commercial Internet Utilisation and Financial Assessment Manager for a big company in London.  He does point out that “To put this in its proper perspective my cubicle is 2m by 2m!”  Rather naughtily ["through sheer tedium and boredom"],Peter thought he’d follow up my last posting about CBO on the internet, etc.,as “That’s how we make money here.”

Worryingly,he pulled all the info on myself  and CBO from the data bases used by his company in a couple minutes [eek].  So what did he come up with?

1]  “Your hit rate is far higher than your dashboard tells you.  This is because the companies supplying the blog space would be charged more for its bandwidth if it declared high stats.  This is common practice.”

2] “Based on your background and experience and the work put into CBO,the number of hits, feeders and so forth you actual commercial value of CBO would be twice that stated on the other sites, including Viper”

3] “Therefore,an ad such as the Underground Overkill one would have a commercial space value of £1000.  How much do you currently charge?”

“Charge”?  I don’t !!!

4] “Taking into account your experience as well as standing in the industry each review on your site would be valued at a commercial rate of £1500-£2000.  You are, after all is said and done giving your name and site to the reviews.  You mention consultancy work.  Again, commercially,a single consultation fee would be £1000 and this is a flat rate for a days work.”

Peter ended with:”This assessment would normally cost a company £2000 and we have a top reputation for accuracy.  You need to start making money!”

I have to admit this makes me feel uncomfortable.  When Peter asked if I’d be interested in accurate info compared to some of that given out by internet companies,I thought it might be a laugh.  Yes,I’d love to make money from CBO but that’s not why I started it.  It would be terrible if it came to penny counting and I think a lot of hitters would soon go somewhere else!

One thing of interest is that Peter checked to see which were the main items hitters checked out.  In no particular order they were:

Cinebook -The 9th Art news and reviews

Classical Comics news and reviews

Manhua/Manhwa items

Archie Comics news

The above were the “peak viewing [viewed?] items”.  Reviews, apparently got lots of hits as did interviews.  So not too bad then?!

You have my promise that CBO will NOT become a big money-spinner business.  It’ll stay as it is and as it was intended.  Marvel and DC reviews?  No. I’m not going out buying comics to review:they send books I’ll review them but as that is very unlikely….

But there is something I do need to do.  And that is say THANK YOU to all of you who visit CBO regularly and, even if you never leave a comment, you do make me realise CBO is worth the effort.

Love and Peace to you all!!
