Okay,I need to make something clear to existing as well as about to be publishers. Writing me emails saying you have such-and-such a book due out and would I review it is acceptable.
However,it’s all the other stuff that is not alright.
Things like:
*”Our book is due out in December -when should we begin publicising and how should we go about publicity?”
*”These are the books we intend publishing but which do you think ought to come first and who should we aim it at?”
*”Although we are aiming at English language readers what sort of non-English options do we have and how would we go about getting a licensing agreement or distribution deal?”
And there are more. Sometimes all three of the above can be in an email. If you have not sorted all this out yourself then you do need to ask a consultant. I get paid money for that as it takes time,etc.. China,India, etc.,ask for advice and pay. You cannot possibly expect me to plan out your publication strategy from stage A to Z for absolutely nothing at all! I have done this in the past but then nothing -not even a thank you and the publisher acts as though they did everything!
For Publishers:A “Readers Review” will cost £25.00 and to work as a consultant a lot more!
PLEASE do not ask me to sort everything out for you –I am not a charity and I need to eat!
Bear that in mind.
Thank You.
