Some Changes

Okay -I must stop opening sentences with “okay”- a New Policy for CBO to start on 1st January,2010.

TAKE NOTE!!

Idiots are still offering pdf books to review.  Those emails are spammed straight away.  The Reviews Policy and recent editorials have made it clear how we stand on pdf books.  Nice reviews and so on and people advance order and the books don’t appear. We get the stick.

We carry a lot of Press Releases but then, when asking when CBO will get a review copy we either get:

1] You can buy a copy from us

or

2]Its too expensive to post

My answer to 1] is ***** off.

My answer to 2] is **** off.

Why?  If you publish books you should be setting aside review copies to send out.  Its what publishers do.  To expect someone to BUY and then review your book shows that you have no brains and won’t succeed. A couple publishers who tried pulling 1] on me are no longer mentioned on CBO –you may have noticed.

With 2] its the same thing.  A pdf might look nice but I’ve seen the final printed item looking awful.  There is no reason why you cannot send a book Printed Matter rate.

There are 350-500 hits a day on CBO [that's 3-5000 per week] and we review books and our readership here is quite international.  Reviews and news gets picked up by so many other sites I lost count so you can probably treble the number of people who read about your book.

Is that not good enough? How many hits do your reviewed items get on other sites swamped by DC and Marvel.  CBO is Independent and Small Press friendly:they are our mainstay.

Now,if you use 1] and 2] above then the new CBO policy will affect you.

As of 1st January,2010,we will no longer carry Press Releases from publishers who do not follow through with review books.  It doesn’t matter who you are there are no exclusions.

This is not just some time-wasting hobby:CBO intends tostay for a long time but if publishers will not support it and how it promotes them then they should not expect CBO to support them.  No more free rides and excuses.  Readers here want to know how good a book is and the quality and a PR and jpeg image don’t do that.

So,you’ve all been told.

Terry
