Firstly,I’ve been asked for background info by several people. Well, you can view that type of thing at my Linkedin page:
So,job offers accepted!
Secondly, you regulars will notice that certain companies Press Releases are no longer appearing. The reason for this is simple. Those companies saw that they were getting extra interest after CBO mentions and promises made of review material never came to anything. This has been going on a long time and companies using CBO just to get news out there and reaping the rewards is annoying since they feel they have no obligation toward CBO.
I’ve been over this so often that it bores me -I’m sure it bores CBO readers but…
CBO needs review material to keep going. Publishing PR news that you can find on other sites [albeit tucked away -unlike on CBO] is just plain boring.
CBO reviews EVERYTHING sent in [but NOT pdf files!!!] and so the excuse used that review copies are not sent out because no one reviews those books does NOT apply to CBO. I therefore take the decision that,if companies cannot be bothered, neither will I.
Hence vanishing news.
Archie,Classical Comics and Cinebook treat CBO on a fair basis because they have seen the rewards. CBO has been THE place to go to see fair Independent comic and Small Press book reviews. However, even talking face-to-face with publishers and creators has resulted in “Yeah, sure. We’ll send stuff to you” followed by the inevitable non-appearance of anything.
Twice in the past year I have been offered the opportunity to receive DC or Marvel trade paperbacks. I’ve said “no” because it didn’t fit in with CBO. I am now seriously contemplating adding DC and Marvel reviews to CBO.
I’ve lost complete track of Jack Staff, which is a pity, because I no longer frequent Bristol’s comic store that seems adamant not to include many Independent titles -and they kept missing my standing order for JS. Hey,like publishers,if stores don’t support the customers who keep them going why support them?
So,it may well be that you see that DC and Marvel news/reviews slipping in more and more. I’ve given up after years of chasing the Independents and Small Pressers -they are still welcome to submit. I’ve also given up chasing European publishers.
It is,frankly, seemingly inevitable that the “Big Two” seep in here. CBO seems to be getting stale and that means either deleting the site, carrying on in boredom ad infinitum,or making changes.
I’ll let everyone know the final decision at the end of this month.
I will NOT be at the BICS event in Birmingham -apparently Press passes only go to print or broadcast media [??].
I will NOT be at the upcoming Alternative Press Fair for personal reasons.
I WILL be at the International Comic Expo in May 2010.
Yes. The “Solitary Man” is back!
