Green Lama -AC Hit!

Before such attrocities as Project Superpowers and the general jumping on the Public Domain bandwaggon,James Ritchey III had planned a revival of the Green Lama and other characters.  The first issue of Green Lama:Man Of Strength sold well -outselling other titles from Bill Black’s AC that month.

Now,after a break for various non-comic related reasons,Green Lama #2 is finally listed in Previews.

If you are unfamiliar with AC here is a quick history:

A publishing company started by Bill Black,it was founded as Paragon Publications in 1969,before being briefly known as Americomics in 1982, and becoming AC in 1984.  Black’s company  was one of the initial quartet of independent color comics companies who pioneered the direct sales phenomenon in the early 1980s, and targeted specialty comic book shops rather than news-stands or other outlets.

AC Comics specializes in quality reprints of American Golden Age comics from now-defunct companies whose properties lapsed into public domain. AC  also publishes a number of Modern Age adventures starring the Golden Age superheroes. Probably the most well known of these titles is Femforce – this  features the adventures of an all-female superhero team, and it was one of the first teams of this kind in the comics.

AC has developed a reputation for straight-forward,qualty, fun, and action-packed superhero tales which, thankfully, tend to often avoid the darker themes of the majority modern comics US comics.  In addition to superheroes, AC has attempted to preserve other Golden Age comic book genres such as Westerns, jungle adventure and sci fi.

Himalayas. Regaining his powers, he returns to civilization to defeat his ancient enemy, STOPWACH, and a brainwashed ATOMAN–all to restore the soul of his beloved Madeleine to her body- and to literally save humanity!!

Special Notes: This is the second half of the intro to AC’s great new GREEN LAMA ongoing series. which debuted in 2008 as the AC’s most successful books of the year!! In this issue, (which picks up where GREEN LAMA #1 left off) the truth comes out regarding the unsuspecting college student who has fallen heir to the ageless powers of The GREEN LAMA.

This continuation of an “Elseworlds” -style take on the classic Golden Age hero created by Ken Crossen and refined in consultation with Kendra Crossen Burroughs, daughter of and executor to the literary estate of the characters’ creator should continue to appeal to contemporary readers with it’s undercurrent of dark intrigue set against the modern world.

This volume of the saga features the reappearance of another classic hero contemporary with the original SPARK PUBLICATIONS run from the 1940’s, ATOMAN, as the dupe of the LAMA’S arch-villain. Thus, the stage is set for a number of other upcoming revivals/reinterpre tations of popular Golden Age heroes that will occur in future issues of the series, including MISS MASQUE, BLACK TERROR, The BLUE LADY and others, all slightly different even than previous AC revivals, done up here in the distinctive style of writer/artist James Ritchey.”.
