I really, really do owe Pekka an apology.  This book got to me in February but with all the problems I completely forgot it..or,rather,I was convinced that I had reviewed the book when it arrived.  I blame my medication!

If it has not been made clear to everyone before now then it isn’t due to lack of saying/writing it:I am a major Kapteeni Kuolio [Captain Gangrene] fan.  Yes,it is in Finnish and,no,I don’t understand Finnish.  The great thing about a good comic is that, visually,it should tell you the story and Pekka is very good at this [hey,he’s been doing this for a while now!].

Someone asked who I could compare Kapteeni Kuolio to in mainstream comics?  There are no comparisons.  The art and situations the character finds himself in are often strange and very quirky –if you check CBO you’ll find an interview with Finland’s Finest as well as reviews of Kapteeni Kuolio:Tamperkerle,KK:Tampereen Sankari,KK:Pispalan Vampyyrit and mention of the Kapteeni Kuolio novel Ja Suomen Salainen Kuningas.

This latest volume opens with the good Kapteeni having a chat with a talking wolf and from there on in it gets even better as Kuolio and his partner try to retrieve a wolf pelt and return it –but this means tracking down a werewolf!  There are some very nice parts of the story looking at werewolf history, etc.,and I have to admit those images stuck in my mind.  Quite jarring and I love horror comics so for one to make me check it out several times is impressive.

But this is P. A. Manninen’s work so I expect high standards!

Do they find the werewolf?  Is the pelt returned?

Please ignore that this is in Finnish because even if you do not understand it the book is a visual treat and if you are a true comic lover you will want this album.
