Having been such a low level promoter and publisher of the Small Press for over 25 years I never expected to get an invite. I never expected to hear about this.  Luckily, someone threw the news in my direction.

“COMICA COMIKET AT THE COMICA FESTIVAL, ICA, LONDON!

I am getting in touch with you because you create and maybe self-publish your own independent comics and graphic novels. I hope you may be interested in exhibiting and selling them at the second free COMICA COMIKET being held on Saturday November 22nd 2008 - that’s two weeks this Saturday - and the Saturday following the Thought Bubble Festival in Leeds.

The Comics Comiket is being held in both the Nash and Brandon Rooms upstairs at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, on The Mall in London. It’s all part of the Comica Festival now in its 6th year. For the full programme see my site here:

Here’s the link on the ICA’s site which also include how to get there:

and here’s a fun video made by Oli Smith and London Underground Comics who are helping produce and promote this year’s Comiket:

Some of you may have already taken part in last year’s pilot Comiket. This went so well, attracting a varied buying public, that we’re expanding it to fill both rooms. Here are some of the practical points :

1. Table Hire: we’re offering quarter tables, based on standard tressle table size, at £8 per quarter, and the most any single exhibitor can book is two quarters, ie one half, for £16, to maximise the number of creators and publishers taking part.

2. Booking: Simply email me back asap with the confirmation of whether you’d like one, or two, quarter tables. You can pay for these on the day in cash please.

3. Setting up: There will be access to the rooms to set up from 12 noon on the Saturday and doors open at 1pm. Admission to the public is free. Please let me know if you’d like access to the lift to get your stock up to the rooms (they are on the top floor).

4. Listing: Confirmed advance exhibitors will be listed and have their sites linked on the ICA site and on my Comica site.

5. Displays: Sorry but you cannot pin, tape or stick anything to the walls of the Nash and Brandon Rooms. We may have the internet set up so that we can show your online work. There may also be some demonstrations and live drawing events as part of the day for the public to watch.

6. Hours: The Comiket runs from 1pm to 7pm, so we hope you can stay for these hours and you can pack up after this.

7. Promotion: It would be great if you can plug the event on your own sties please and link to the online info. LUC will be setting up a Facebook page shortly. I can also mail you flyers for the whole Comica programme.

8. Cancellation: If you book and then find you cannot come, do please let me know asap so we can allocate your space to someone else.

If you have any queries, do please get back to me. Thanks for your interest and support and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Cheers

Paul”
