Cold Blooded Chillers
“There are monsters in the world. They’re called human beings.”
− Michael Diamond, from The Life Beyond
Edgar Allen Poe meets Edward Hopper. This fusion of dark tales and suburban/rural art creates the macabre canvass of COLD BLOODED CHILLERS. A place where manicured lawns and fresh-painted McMansions mask the shadows of every kind of misdeed imaginable. Or unimaginable, if you will.More than blood and gore, COLD BLOODED CHILLERS is smart horror noir with a dash of suspense and surprise. Like that unnerving chill on your neck from the open front door … that you locked minutes before. Or the numbing realization that the spouse you thought you knew is a sociopathic stranger. Don’t be afraid. You’re not alone. Because the one truth we all learn before we eat dirt is this: nothing and nobody is as it seems. Such is the case with this delightfully dire horror series.
Yours cruelly,
Robert M. Heske
Well, that’s some build-up and issue number 3 is a few weeks off so what can you expect in…
COLD BLOODED CHILLERS 1?
“LOST AND FOUND”
in which a mall cop helps a distraught teen search for her missing sister. The art isn’t too bad and the only problem I had was that the twist ending was telegraphed –as far as I was concerned anyway. The major problem is that at my age I’ve read so many comics, seen so many horror and crime films that it takes a lot to surprise me!
That said I was expecting part 2 because of the ending. Art & Lettering: Scott Austin
“FALSE PRETENSES”
A web date becomes a dead date. Can you be any less give-away than that?! In fact,I liked Eliseu’s artwork. Very slick. The ending…buy it and see!
Art: Eliseu “ZEU” GouveiaLettering: Alain Norte
“THE WAITING ROOM”
A businessman’s past and present collide at an auto body shop.
Okay,I can see what was intended with this story but at one point I got a mite lost. The thing is that these stories by Robert Heske read like episodes of some TV series. So you have to be careful with the visuals. But still an interesting tale. Art:Preston AsevedoLettering: Jesse James Wroblewski
“MISHAP”
One fatal accident leads to another…and another.Mixed views on this one. Artwork so-so. Art & Lettering: Neil Morrissey
Stories by Robert HeskeCover and inside cover art by Mark Chilcott
And…
COLD BLOODED CHILLERS 2?
“DEAD DOG” A dead dog dumped in a man’s driveway brings bad karma.
This story had a few twists but I can’t really discuss aspects I was unsure of because that would give away the plot. That said, the ending was cool.
Art: Eliseu “ZEU” Gouveia
Lettering: Alain Norte
“MISNOMER”
Trick or Treaters enter an alleged pedophile’s abandoned home.
Ughh. As soon as you start bringing in paedophiles I get a gagging reaction. Far better,I think,to just suggest something “odd” is going on. Having said that the twist at the end works.
Art & Lettering: Alain Norte
“HER FIRST DAY ALONE”
A mother becomes traumatized when her baby enters day care.
Wow. This one sort of meanders but definitely reads more like an adapted film script. Gorey so there are some should be very happy with that!
Art & Lettering: Monty Borror
Stories by Robert Heske
Cover and inside cover art by Mark Chilcott
Now,I do not want to sound negative. The problem is that as you get older you get more jaded and editing and publishing means you keep thinking “No. I’d do it like this” and this isn’t about me!
The idea of giving away plotlines is is not one I like. The art styles vary and this is a good thing because you never know what to expect next.
This is a new comic series title and I’m sure there are a lot of fans out there who will like this and even ask Robert for a chance to work on a script!
I think the title can develop but I’m wondering whether it needs a direction –horror or twist-in-the tail? The opinions that count are YOU comic buyers out there and on these you cannot really lose because each of these black and white comics has a page count of 40 –and they are $3.00 EACH!!
I’d suggest you also check out Robert’s Comic Space page at:

Where you can learn more. Robert has a plan and it’s going to be interesting to see how #3 develops and how it will all tie-in with his up-coming horror series.
