176pp Paperback;Publication date:May 2008
So,what is it all about, you may well ask? Well,it can be summarised thusly: Amaranth is a young woman who discovers that she is the long-lost daughter of Rosa, the Lord of Hell. In between doubts about her sanity and longing for her Lord, she has to choose which world she belongs to; the real world, or the beautiful but cruel palaces of hell?
Amaranth is written and illustrated by Willie Hewes, and if you missed the somewhat lengthy interview with Bristol’s “Queen of Zines” you can find it here:

Amaranth is a great read and develops quite nicely so if you want to wait and buy the collected book with its dead lush cover, okay. However, you might still be able to get the original 8 issues and I like these because, unlike the collected book, you get eight covers!!
Hmm. I really –really- must get out more. But read the interview and you’ll see how this all fits into Willie’s plan for domination of the UK comic scene! And if you think Amaranth is good wait til you see ..
THE WITCH And Other Tales Of The Supernatural, by Willie Hewes, Karen Rubins and Gwen Kortsen.
There are three short stories about, well,”Supernatural occurrences” [oh dear,We in the field term them “paranormal incidents”] and creatures -these range from the poignant to “stupid funny”.
Writing by Willie Hewes [see, and you thought there was no link!] and Gwen Kortsen, who I am unfamiliar with but I’m told she is responsible for Unnatural Remedy and Mangasm!!
The art is,naturally,by Willie and Karin Rubins, one of the minds behind Dark, which I think first appeared in ..2000? Certainly,I purchased a couple copies when I met Karin and her sister at one of the Bristol Comic Expoes [the place to meet comic folk in the UK]. Its 52pp hopes to entertain and intrigue, and will be out on 22 March, just in time for the Web and Mini Comix Thing.
Not that I ever get invites to The Mini Comix Thing,oh no!
Although I’ve not seen The With yet,it looks interesting and I really do recommend Amaranth –either book or original series. For more information check out Willie’s own site at: http://www.webcomicsnation.com/williehewes/index.php
