Broughton Plus!
Thanks for the comments on the Broughton article!
I was responding to one of the comments and needed to check a date. I then found one of the mails from someone claiming to represent Broughton -Rob Brown. The mail was interesting:
“If it is for single stories,
and not a compilation and forpublication in britain we can look at it.
the rights for compilation have already been alocated but will not see
publication till next year , we may be able to do something. If the
company is
reputable with a history we may be able to look at co production. or if
they
wnat single stories for britain it may not be a problem.
Australia and South Africa have also inquired about this material
magic agent may be available,
Above material is in black and white
I need to know,
1) type of publication
@) market
Horror material as such may be available also.
regrads,
Rob Brown
for Roger Broughton”
Yes,badly laid out again and very badly written -a near match to some of the ‘Broughton’ emails!
What made me very suspicious is that Brown was stating reprint rights had been granted in the UK but I could still do a deal and jump ahead of the other licencee! This is very sharp business practice -selling to one publisher and the offering to sell to another and telling them when the ‘rival’ is publishing.
However,we now know that this other publisher never existed. It was all a lie.
