DR MASTER PUBLICATIONS
Some Dr Master books have arrived and made a great change from my usual diet of American comics!
Let’s get started with one becoming a favourite of mine…

The advent of the third JUNK brings a new reign of terror to Tokyo as the white JUNK is overpowered by its superior technology.
Meanwhile, Hiro goes to
Well, considering this was a bit “hit-or-miss” with me when I read vol.4,I’ll admit that I enjoyed this. Yes,I enjoyed Manga. The confrontation between the darker Red Junk and the unsuited White was pretty gripping stuff…there are a lot of twists and turns and this looks like being one of my favourite b&w Dr Master books.
My local store does not, apparently, have Dr Master books so Junk 1-3 eludes me. Again,I wonder what the original size of the artwork was? But if you want action, adventure and twists this one is for you!
PURGATORY KABUKI vol.1
Author: Yasushi Suzuki
ISBN 13: 978-1-59796-070-0
Date Published: 12/27/2007
Format: paperback / B&W
Number of pages: 144

Purgatory Kabuki is a samurai action story set in the underworld or afterlife. For reasons unknown, former samurai – Imanoturugi is obsessed with leaving the afterlife. To die in battle is a samurai’s greatest honor. Yet, now Imanoturugi must claim 1000 swords from the fallen warriors who now share residence in the dark underworld. By these and these means alone, this highly skilled blades master will be allowed admittance back into the living world. But to what end? Upon what stone purpose does he sharpen his edge? The story borrows heavily from various Japanese legends and myths. A skillfully mixed bag of action, suspense, classic ukiyoe style art and intrigue…
I had heard of Suzuki but never seen any of his work. There is some very fine art here and though I tend to think Manga is too over- the –top with toner, the amount of work these artists turn out probably calls for a few short cuts!
The cover is great. Very eye-catching. This would make a lovely poster for someone’s wall. The fights and scenery are rendered with good detail and the same can be said for the characters and the Design Work pages show some great skill at work.
This is the type of Manga I can find myself happy to read and for me to say that it takes a lot!
IRON WOK JAN vol 27 [End of series]
Author: Shinji Saiyo
ISBN: 978-1-59796-050-2
Date Published: 12/28/2007
Format: Paperback / B&W
Number of pages: 208
Rating: 13+
Price: $9.95
After Jan reveals his unspeakable ingredient too sickening even to be mentioned on the back cover, the ostriches go wild turning the competition site upside down. But, don’t worry. There is still one battle left. Don’t miss the final battle as the cooking battle saga of the two houses Akiyama and Gobancho closes its curtain after three generations.
Also included: a special alternate ending and Shinji Saijyo’s debut manga What Mysterious Fellows!!
Pity I only got to see this from vol.26. This final book looks really great. Not sure if it’s just me but the artwork seems to have gotten better?! I’m sure it is just me but, based on vol.26 the art here is better.
There is so much crammed into each panel and page that I wonder what size Saijyo’s original art is? If you want a few laughs and to find out what the secret ingredient referred to is –BUY THE BOOK!
THE ART BOOK OF YASUSHI SUZUKI

Date Published: 6/27/2007
Format: Paperback / Color
Number of pages: 84 Rating:
All age Price: $26.95
This project is total fan appreciation! Graphic artist and game designer – Yasushi Suzuki has meticulously compiled a stunning cache of his own work history. The Art of Yasushi Suzuki will showcase nearly 100 images, some of which were designed specifically for this event, including art from the video games Ikaruga (Sega), and Sin & Punishment (Nintendo), plus cover art from the Japanese language version of George R.R. Martin’s New York Times best selling novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire.
This cover caught my eye and, though I have a policy of not recommending books I’ve not seen,I can make an exception here –because you can actually see sample pages!
This is an artist I’m not familiar with other than through Purgatory Kabuki but some of the illustrations in this Art book are incredible. If you don’t check this book out you’ll never know what you have missed! So check out Dr Master Publications site the url is:
