BICS 2007

This just through from Paul Birch

BICS 2007 went over Big! The Birmingham International Comics Show (BICS) 2007 proved a resounding success at Millennium Point’s Thinktank over the weekend of October 13-14th.  Scheduling the

UK event earlier in the year proved popular with dealers, publishers, creators and fans alike. From babies in pushchairs to pensioners and all ages in between – and with many dressed in costume! - there were smiling faces everywhere.  More than double the number of fans who attended BICS in its debut year came to the 2007 event. On the Saturday lunchtime, Thinktank staff surveying the Publishers & Dealers’ Hall from overhead estimated 2,000 people were there by that point. With daily shows also taking place in two conference rooms there was something for everyone. A number of those events had standing room only, and the expected highlights of the Mike Mignola interview specials had many fans disappointed in having to be turned away due to the events’ overwhelming popularity. Among the other special guests who appeared at the show were Simon Bisley, Mark Buckingham, Mike Carey, Paul Cornell, Alan Davis, Duncan Fegredo, Dave Gibbons, Kevin Nowlan and Liam Sharp. Publishers ranged in their diversity from 2000AD to Knockabout, with newer companies like Markosia and Classical Comics also making their presence felt. There was wide mainstream media attention and the show - and comics generally - were reported on positively, with notable individuals praising the goodwill the event was generating for the city of

Birmingham
.
With publishers, dealers, fans, and creators already spreading the word about the “fun time” they had this October, many have already pre-booked for a return visit. For those who haven’t heard through the grapevine already, provisional dates for the Birmingham International Comics Show 2008 are set for the weekend of 4-5th October. Expect more exciting news to follow soon!  Additional Information: For BICS 2008 information regarding Stand Availability, Registering Professionals, and Advance Tickets visit: www.thecomicsshow.co.uk

More Green Lama Info –and AC Link

James Ritchey, bless him,is trying so you really ought to buy a copy [subtle, heh?]:

I’m happy to announce that the first issue of my ‘Punk-PostmodernPulp’ variation on Ken Crossen’s legendary superhero has finally beenpublished–in a limited collector’s edition, before the big ‘Previews’debut for March.

From the publisher:

“The #0 issue was just to whet your appetite–but the REAL storystarts here!!

The GREEN LAMA lives once more in a darkly contemporary twist on the AC Comics universe. This is a new, more ‘character-driven’ andrefreshingly inventive ‘re-imagining’ of one of the most enduringsuper-heroes of the Golden Age–as writer/artist James Ritcheyrevitalizes Pulp, Comics and Science Fiction great Kendall FosterCrossen’s legendary MAN OF STRENGTH for the 21st Century.

World War III has come and gone–demons run amok in the streets, half of humanity, lost. Can an unsuspecting college student, Jethro “Jet”Dumont II, who has only now come to realize that he is THE GREEN LAMA REBORN, bring back order, justice, and sanity–and heal the soul of awounded world? Worst of all–can he do it in time to prevent the enslavement and destruction of rhe rest of humanity, by The GREEN LAMA’S oldest and most deadly nemesis?

Four years in the making, this “Elseworlds” -meets-”Vertigo” style riffon the classic Golden Age hero takes place in a reality apart from theusual AC dimension. Guest-starring a very different type ofFEMFORCE–including Ms. Victory, Synn, Nightveil and She-Cat as you’ve NEVER seen them before–as well as GOLDEN LAD, and a ‘puzzle’ of cameos by classic Prize and Spark Publications’ heroes and heroines on par with Finnegan’s Wake! Thirty-three pages of never-before- published story and art–and the birth of a great new series!!

Written and penciled by James Ritchey III, with inks by Loki Dolza.Standard comic book size, 40 pages, black & white with color covers,saddle-stitched. Printed in 2007.”
