BICS 2007 went over Big! The Birmingham International Comics Show (BICS) 2007 proved a resounding success at Millennium Point’s Thinktank over the weekend of October 13-14th.  Scheduling the

UK event earlier in the year proved popular with dealers, publishers, creators and fans alike. From babies in pushchairs to pensioners and all ages in between – and with many dressed in costume! - there were smiling faces everywhere.  More than double the number of fans who attended BICS in its debut year came to the 2007 event. On the Saturday lunchtime, Thinktank staff surveying the Publishers & Dealers’ Hall from overhead estimated 2,000 people were there by that point. With daily shows also taking place in two conference rooms there was something for everyone. A number of those events had standing room only, and the expected highlights of the Mike Mignola interview specials had many fans disappointed in having to be turned away due to the events’ overwhelming popularity. Among the other special guests who appeared at the show were Simon Bisley, Mark Buckingham, Mike Carey, Paul Cornell, Alan Davis, Duncan Fegredo, Dave Gibbons, Kevin Nowlan and Liam Sharp. Publishers ranged in their diversity from 2000AD to Knockabout, with newer companies like Markosia and Classical Comics also making their presence felt. There was wide mainstream media attention and the show - and comics generally - were reported on positively, with notable individuals praising the goodwill the event was generating for the city of

Birmingham. With publishers, dealers, fans, and creators already spreading the word about the “fun time” they had this October, many have already pre-booked for a return visit.
