ALTER EGO
Yes,Alter Ego no.73 is out! I’m told my eyes light up every time a copy is pulled out of the Standing Orders drawer -and why not:it is a superb publication.
And what is in this issue?
ALTER EGO 73 celebrates Halloween with an awesome new Dr. Strange cover by FRANK BRUNNER, who talks about drawing Marvel’s Mystic Master! Plus, amazing interviews with CHARLES BIRO and his DAUGHTERS on the life and times of the man behind Daredevil, Boy Comics, and Crime Does Not Pay - with art by JACK COLE, GEORGE TUSKA, JOE KUBERT, NORMAN MAURER, RUDY PALAIS, FRED KIDA, FRED GUARDINEER, TONY DiPRETA, DAN BARRY, et al.!
Also - ROY THOMAS’ 1971 synopsis for the origin of Marvel’s Man-Thing - and an interview with publisher ROBERT GERSON about the 1970s horror comic Reality, studded with rare art by BERNIE WRIGHTSON, MICHAEL W. KALUTA, JEFF JONES, and others!
Plus, there’s P.C. Hamerlinck’s FCA (Fawcett Collectors of America) with Marc Swayze, C.C. Beck, and others, Michael T. Gilbert and Mr. Monster’s Comic Crypt, and more! Includes a FREE Preview of DRAW! 15, also shipping this month!
Alter Ego 73 [100pp] - $9.00/UK £4.95
We’re also selling the complete PDF for $2.95.
And I have to say that, even though [sadly] the covers and art are not in colour they are still great to look at and there are always littlegems turning up!
The other sad side of AE is that the number of Golden Age and Silver Age creators passing away grows with each issue. But this isn’t depressing,or shouldn’t be,AE is helping us remember creators and their lives rather than have us see something signed “Biro” and thinking “who’s that?”
Today’s comic industry owes everything to these greats.
And there is the added bonus in that each issue we find out more about behind-the-scenes of the companies and industry.
AE should be must reading for all comic fans.
And next issue -a special Stan Lee AE!!
