David Lloyd -Kick-Back?

I thought I’d mention David Lloyd.  He has been around for a very long time but, unlike Dave Gibbons,Brian Bolland and others I’ll not mention for fear of being accused of favouritism,David seems to never have gotten a big ‘name’.

But let’s look at what he has done -he set up the Portobello Project in the 1980s after lots -lots- of hard work;he was the artist who made the series V For Vendetta [ruined some might say when his superb black and white work was coloured],art on Night Raven for Marvel UK and on DCs Underworld comic  -hey check his bio out at Wikipedia.

The man goes to the extreme in trying to promote his work,at one point phoning 130 US comic book stores to get his work on shelves.  Even with the publicity from the major film adaption of V For Vendetta didn’t work in his favour -are there only a few of us who can appreciate talent?

Well,he has a hardback book from Dark Horse that came out last August [no,I’ve still not seen a copy!].  Some 96pp with a cover price of £6.95 -?

The book is written and drawn by Lloyd and is about Joe Canelli,a crooked cop working in an even more corrupt police department.  Joe,it seems,is haunted by nightmares of being powerless –and it seems the nightmares are coming true!  His partner is killed and Joe is betrayed by his own colleagues.

What can Joe do?

Turn against the criminal network he once embraced!

According to people who have read this book it’s a great read.

David Lloyd deserves more recognition and support.  Me? I’m guiltily going to see if I can find a copy -now YOU get out there and buy a copy!!

Hmm…David Lloyd interview?

  1. Brodie Said,

I met Mr. Lloyd at a recent convention, and talked to him for a while. I bought a copy of this book from him for cover price ($13) and he signed it and drew a sketch of the main character for free. He is a very nice gentleman and the book is a good read. I suggest picking it up if you can find a copy…
